Job Description & Responsibilities

Persistent Systems is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join our team.  The Senior Cost Accountant will join our accounting and finance team in our New York City headquarters.  This is a unique role that will have a huge impact on our manufacturing and supply chain operations.  This individual will operate as a liaison between accounting, manufacturing, and supply chain to ensure we are capturing the most accurate information possible to ensure robust accounting practices for our wireless tactical networking products in alignment with the unique needs of defense, government and commercial customers.

 

Position Responsibilities

 

  • Investigate and understand every aspect of the inventory system including inventory financial dimensions, the procurement/PO/vouchering process, and how current and standard costs are calculated for materials, labor, and overhead
  • Analyze and report variances (including purchase price variances) generated from inventory purchases and usage and determine root cause
  • Analyze and roll standard costs periodically
  • Own monthly analysis of every inventory and COGS related ledger account and reporting commentary to leadership
  • Scrutinize costing and inventory transactional data to draw conclusions, interpret results, drive corrective actions, and make recommendations to Accounting leadership
  • Reconciles inventory subledger to the general ledger monthly
  • Own the Inventory Excess & Obsolete (E&O) analyses, prepare E&O adjustments, and reconcile to the general ledger monthly
  • Prepare monthly margin analysis and assist in making pricing recommendations
  • Perform periodic price testing to ensure inventory current costs in the system are calculating appropriately
  • Work closely with our ERP Specialist team to continue building our processes and discover unutilized functionalities in the system
  • Work closely with the Production / Supply Chain teams to understand physical inventory versus inventory subledger adjustments and ensure they are processed accurately and timely; including participating in the annual counts observation by external audit firm
  • Support inventory and COGS related external audit deliverables and questions
  • Ensure inventory costing policies are clearly defined and consistently implemented
  • Assist in projects to improve overall efficiency, eliminating process waste and improving company profitability
  • Developing and adhering to strong internal control structure and procedures 
  • Draft recommendations for new and necessary controls for review by the Accounting Leadership and Controller. 
  • Providing recommendations for Accounting Policies & Procedures updates as needed 
  • Modifying and documenting accounting procedures for understanding, backup, and cross training
  • Handling all company-related matters with strict confidentiality 

 

Job Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Ideal candidate for this position would be someone that is a self-starter and is willing to continually learn, grow, and expand their knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related 
  • 5+ years of cost accounting experience or related
  • Strong understanding of all debits and credits related to inventory (balance sheet) and COGS (income statement)
  • Must possess knowledge of applicable accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts and corporate procedures
  • Detailed understanding of how supply chain flow and manufacturing processes interact with the general ledger
  • Must be comfortable working 3+ days per week onsite (hybrid)
  • Familiar with Gov’t Contractor accounting, FAR and CAS regulations a plus
  • Experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
  • Experience in Public Accounting (preferred, but not necessary)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel 
  • Must have a United States Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a United States Security Clearance

 

Total compensation for this role can vary from $105,000 to $135,000 a year based on individual qualifications. Eligibility for yearly discretionary bonus.
