Job Description & Responsibilities

We’re looking for an RF Network Engineer for our Fort Collins, CO office who will develop wireless network designs as well as the build and implementation of wireless networks.  As an RF Network Engineer, you’ll be a critical member of the Persistent Systems technical team and will work closely with technical team members to solve our customer’s most difficult mobile ad hoc networking (MANET) problems. Our ideal candidate will design, plan and verify the performance of MANET wireless systems, including radio propagation modeling and prediction, frequency planning, site equipment design, and end-to-end testing. You will have had success building out complex wireless data communication systems from greenfield to operations for multiple fixed wireless access networks.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Architect, implement, and support network solutions utilizing Wave Relay® technology
  • Perform network design and quantitative analysis using a combination of radio network planning tools and GIS to determine most optimal node configurations
  • Extensive field measurement to characterize performance of frequency bands under varying RF environments and clutter class, and form agreements with model predictions
  • Conduct surveys and site walks to validate radio network design and generate a detailed statement of work (SOW) for installation of both tower and pole radio equipment
  • Antenna design and beam-forming techniques
  • Verify end-to-end testing results meet expected results
  • Design solutions to meet customer requirements, including RF antenna solutions, physical interfaces, and custom installations
  • Design high capacity point-to-point (PTP) wireless backhaul using radio equipment across a variety of frequency bands
  • Lead proactive, continuous improvement of existing network solutions
  • Develop long-term customer relationships with project clients through managing and interpreting requirements
  • Provide project technical assistance, product education, and training
  • Support technical solutions to meet prospect's business, technical, and/or financial goals
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex RF networking systems
  • Maintain expert knowledge of Persistent Systems’ products
  • Support requests for information (RFI) and requests for proposal (RFP) technical solutions and responses

Job Qualifications & Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 3 years’ experience as an RF Network Engineer
  • Expertise with RF planning tools (CloudRF, Siradel, Atoll, Planet, IBwave, etc.) and GIS tools (MapInfo or ArcView)
  • Design and deployment experience acquired with a wireless provider, consultancy, or radio equipment supplier
  • Hands-on experience with field measurement, installation, and testing of radio equipment
  • Understanding of technical concepts such as wireless, GPS, mobile, RF propagation with an understanding of hardware and software concepts, networking concepts such as IP routing and switching, VPN architectures, and OSI model layers 1-3
  • Must be available to travel at least 25% of the time
  • Must have the ability obtain a United States security clearance (Secret or higher)

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering
  • Experience with MANET or Wave Relay®
  • Comfortable working in a small team, and sometimes ambiguous or fluid environments
  • Active United States security clearance (Secret or higher)
